Social Security:
a 70-year-old new idea

Bordeaux, Thursday 28 and Friday 29 May 2015

COMPTRASEC,  the  Centre  for  comparative  labour  and  social  security  law, CNRS joint research unit 5114 -
is organizing an international multi-disciplinary conference to mark the 70th anniversary of Social Security.

This  is  an  opportunity to  look  into  the  social  security  systems  and  models  existing  in various regions of the world, in a context very different from that which was in place at the  time  these  systems  were  born  in  Europe:  a  context  of  economic  globalization, economic  informalization,  and  the  emergence  of  new  social  risks  and  new  forms  of
work,  the  transformation  of  family  models,  and  the  growth  of  community  solidarity, casualization of work, income and resources, women’s role in contemporary societies, etc.  These  factors  and  transformations  require  an  examination  of  the  universality  and modernity  of  the  idea  of  social  security,  based  on  a  critical,  multidisciplinary  and comparative analysis of its implementation and its transformations in different economic, political and social systems.
